Be inspired by professional teaching artists, discuss artworks in our exhibitions and collections, develop skills and techniques, and create your own art using new and traditional materials. Each semester ends with a student exhibition in our Education Gallery!

All levels of experience are welcome.

See our adult programs below. We also offer classes for teens and kids. Questions? Email us at studio.art@brooklynmuseum.org.

Painting: Figuring Out the Figure
Saturdays, 10:30 am–12:30 pm
Saturdays, 1:30–3:30 pm

Find your creative process as you gain new skills in this figurative painting class. Learn anatomy and composition while painting from a live model. Be inspired by the great portrait artists of our time, such as Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. Trial, error, and experimentation set the tone in this class focused on learning and growing rather than masterpieces. Develop your own unique style under guided instruction, and share your results with your peers.

Photography: The Power of the Camera
Sundays, 1:30–3:30 pm

See how contemporary photographers are challenging traditions through their images, and discover how to wield the camera to make powerful statements of your own. Demystify all the buttons on your camera and learn how to capture the perfect shot by understanding depth of field, shutter speed, and ISO. Step into our studio and create works that share your perspective with the world. No camera required.

Printmaking: From Tokyo to Brooklyn
Sundays, 1:30–3:30 pm

Take a look back at nineteenth-century Tokyo with Utagawa Hiroshige’s 100 Famous Views of Edo. Learn about the artist’s woodblock techniques as well as the captivating visual style of the era’s Japanese art. Practice carving into wood and linoleum and create masterful works of your own, depicting vignettes of the places that matter to you.
