Artist and illustrator Barbara Nessim addresses gender identity, body ideals, and desire in her work and was a pioneer in using computer technology to make art. She discusses her journey from growing up in the Bronx to merging fine and commercial art with her conceptual illustrations and exhibiting at major museums. Nessim particularly highlights the Model Project, a collaborative collage series with fashion photographer Karl Rudisill; Chronicles of Beauty, which combines photographs of Greco-Roman busts with popular imagery; and her 1991 interactive installation that produced one-of-a-kind mini-books, among other topics.
