Timarete

Flourished circa 450 B.C.E., ancient Greece

Along with Lalla, Timarete—also known as Thamyris—is one of the six female artists of antiquity mentioned in Pliny the Elder’s Natural History (77 C.E.). Timarete was famous for a panel painting of the goddess Diana (Greek: Artemis) that hung at Ephesus.
