Maryann
Maryann is a misspelling of the name Mariam.
Professor and poet Mariam (Miriam, Maryam) wrote satiric epigrams and was known for her biting wit. Sometimes called the Arabic Corinna, she taught rhetoric, literature, and poetry. She was born in Silves but made her home at Seville, one of the cultural centers of Islamic Spain. Her father’s name is variously given as Abu Ya’qub al-Ansari or Ya’qub al-Faisuli.
