Martha Mears
Flourished late 18th–early 19th century, England
Martha Mears was a gynecologist and obstetrician. In her 1797 book, The Pupil of Nature; or, Candid Advice to the Fair Sex, she took a sensible and realistic approach to the subject of pregnancy and childbirth, providing practical information and dismissing the notion that pregnancy constituted a form of pathology.
