b. circa 1610, Silesia, Poland; d. 1664, Silesia, Poland
Astronomer Maria Cunitz is best known for her 1650 book Urania Propitia, in which she reinterpreted and simplified the work of astronomer Johannes Kepler. The book, which included a preface by her husband disclaiming authorship, clarified Kepler’s theories about planetary motion by providing new tables and calculation methods.
