Guda
Flourished circa 1150, Rhineland, Germany
Guda, a German nun, was a manuscript illuminator. Like many other illuminators, such as Diemud, she signed her work and inserted a self-portrait. The Homiliary of Saint Bartholomew, or Guda Homiliary, the work by which she is known, is inscribed Guda, peccatrix mulier, scripsit et pinxit hunc librum (Guda, a sinful woman, wrote and illuminated this book).
