Gormlaith
b. circa 960, County Kildare, Ireland; d. 1030, Ireland
Gormlaith (Gormflaith) became the third wife of Brian Boru, the High King of Ireland. When he later divorced her, she sought revenge. She encouraged her son from a previous marriage to seek the support of the Danes, a northern Germanic tribe, and they invaded Ireland on April 23, 1014, in a conflict known as the Battle of Clontarf. Gormlaith survived the battle and died sixteen years later.
