Clotilda

Clotilda was the daughter of King Chilperic of Burgundy and in 493 married Clovis I, the first king of the Franks. A Catholic, she converted Clovis from paganism and with him she built a church in Paris. After his death, she was involved in familial political intrigues, mostly between her sons and grandsons over the Burgundian throne. Her charitable works, however, became renowned and she was canonized a few years after her death in 544/545.
