Begga
Date of birth unknown; d. 693, Ardenne, France
Begga married Ansegisel, son of Bishop Arnulf of Metz, France. They had one son, Pippin II, who became the founder of the Carolingian dynasty. When Begga’s husband died in a hunting accident in 691, she became a nun, founded seven churches throughout France, and then built a convent in the city of Ardenne, where she spent the rest of her life as abbess. She was later canonized by the Catholic Church.
