Baptista Malatesta
Date of birth unknown; d. 1450, Urbino, Italy
Baptista, daughter of the count of Urbino, married Galeazzo Malatesta, later the much-hated lord of Pesaro, in 1405. Educated in philosophy and languages, she was a poet and orator who corresponded with other scholars of the time. After Galeazzo was driven from Pesaro, Baptista returned to Urbino and spent her remaining years as a nun of the Franciscan order at Santa Chiara.
