Virtual LGBTQ+ Teen Night: Beyond the Frame

Friday, June 11, 2021

5–7 pm

Online

Join us on Zoom as Teen Night, our teen-led program centered on art and activism, goes virtual! Inspired by Lorraine O’Grady: Both/And and John Edmonds: A Sidelong Glance, this teen-led evening highlights queer and trans artists and healers of color who are using their practices for community liberation.

Schedule:

  • 5 pm Welcome: Settle in for the evening with a keynote message from Zion Spencer, a spiritual healing artist and former BkM Teen.
  • 5:10 pm Art and Healing Galleria: Connect with artists, healers, and spiritual practitioners who are using ancestral knowledge and artistic practice to uplift queer community. With Seyi Adebanjo, Khenpo 10, Suhaly Bautista-Carolina, and Abuela Taught Me.
  • 5:30 pm Vibe Check: Join our BkM Teen MCs for conversation and Pride trivia!
  • 5:40 pm Panel Discussion: In “Art and Ancestry: Leading Queer Legacies,” artists Ka-Man Tse and Salvador Muñoz discuss how they use art to connect different aspects of their identities and histories, moderated by BkM Teens.
  • 6:25 pm Performances: Catch performances by writer and activist Lama, spoken word artist Maud (a.k.a. The Dainty Funk), musician ZAI, and more!

This online program is free and open to all youth ages 14 and up; register on Zoom. All participants will be encouraged to engage through the chat and must abide by our community agreements. Virtual LGBTQ+ Teen Night is organized by InterseXtions, our paid LGBTQ+ teen internship in community programming and queer art history.
