Summer Salons with PEN America: Weike Wang and Jenny Zhang

Thursday, June 14, 2018

7–9 pm

Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Pavilion, 1st Floor

Join Weike Wang and Jenny Zhang, authors of two of the most celebrated debut novels of 2017, as they share selections from Chemistry and Sour Heart. Afterward, they are joined by PEN America’s Nadxieli Nieto for a conversation about their explorations of adolescent and second-generation narratives set in communities of the Chinese diaspora.

Wang’s Chemistry is a coming-of-stage story about a quirky Ph.D. candidate in chemistry who is also navigating romantic and professional crossroads. Sour Heart, by Zhang, conjures the experience of adolescent Chinese American girls growing up in New York City. The evening culminates with a book signing. Presented in partnership with PEN America.

Thanks to a partnership with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, this program is free of charge, but RSVP is encouraged (purchase tickets for David Bowie is separately).
