Summer Salons with PEN America: Alexander Chee, Darnell Moore, Saeed Jones

Thursday, July 26, 2018

7–9 pm

Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Pavilion, 1st Floor

Celebrate summer with readings by Alexander Chee and Darnell Moore. Chee’s essay collection, How to Write an Autobiographical Novel, offers intimate lessons from his work as a queer activist, writing teacher, and fiction writer. Moore’s memoir, No Ashes in the Fire: Coming of Age Black and Free in America, recounts a journey from bullied teenager to activist. After sharing selections from their books, the authors are joined by poet Saeed Jones to talk about how their work explores the intersection of race and sexuality, and how they navigate truth and fiction in their own lives. The evening culminates with a book signing. Presented in partnership with PEN America.

Thanks to a partnership with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, this program is free of charge, but RSVP is encouraged.
