Studio Workshop: Solid Gold Foil

Saturday, February 8, 2025

11 am–4:30 pm

Education Studios, 1st Floor; Brooklyn Metal Works

Tour our special exhibition Solid Gold and learn about the element’s symbolism across mediums. Hear from exhibition curator Matthew Yokobosky about ways that artists have used gold to both create beautiful objects and critique society.

After lunch on your own, regroup at Brooklyn Metal Works (a 20-minute walk or 10-minute car ride from the Museum). Discover metalsmithing techniques using gold foil, such as burnishing, torchwork, and hammering, with cofounder, artist, and educator Erin Daily. Design expressive patterns with embossing and textures, and end the day with your own beautiful pendant made of gilded silver or copper.

This workshop uses 24K Fairmined gold foil. Fairmined certifies gold from artisanal and small-scale mining organizations that meet leading standards for responsible practices.
