Reading: Life and Freedom for Ashraf Fayadh
Thursday, January 14, 2016
7–9 pm
Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Pavilion, 1st Floor
PEN American Center and the Brooklyn Museum present a reading of selected poems and other texts in support of Palestinian poet and art curator Ashraf Fayadh, who, as of November 17, 2015, is facing a death sentence by a Saudi court for apostasy. We are joining forces with the International Literature Festival Berlin (ILB) in their call for all individuals, institutions, schools, and media outlets that care about justice and freedom to participate in a worldwide reading to press the U.K. and U.S. governments to intervene on behalf of Fayadh and free expression, and in defense of human rights.
With photographer, performance artist, and provocateur Dread Scott; poet, language artist, and educator Natalie Diaz; writer and activist Ru Freeman; poet Lawrence Joseph; and writer Dina Omar. Hosted by Elissa Schappell and Rob Spillman.
