Summer School for Grown-ups: Chapbooks—The Pamphlet Stitch & the Art of Self-Publishing

Friday, July 19, 2013

2–2 pm

Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, Forum, 4th Floor

Learn the building blocks of bookbinding, including basic terminology, tearing sheets to size, folding and piercing folios, and the pamphlet stitch—a simple and elegant binding with a lot of room for variation. We’ll also talk about self-publishing and production. You’ll leave the class with some blank books you’ve made and the knowledge to make more at home, with publishing your comic books, poetry, manifestos, zines, or novellas right around the corner! Taught by artist Woody Leslie.

Inspired by The Bruce High Quality Foundation’s dedication to democratized learning, we’re partnering with crowdsourced educators from Brooklyn Brainery to bring you a summer school you won’t want to play hooky from. Drop by select Fridays in July to learn a new skill, get involved in hands-on projects, and meet fellow summer schoolers. Free with Museum admission.

Brooklyn Brainery hosts classes for curious adults on anything from your favorite crafts to bookish intellectualism. It is located in Prospect Heights.
