In connection with the exhibitions Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties and HIDE/SEEK: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture, curator Teresa Carbone, cultural historian Thomas H. Wirth, and art historian Dr. James Smalls explore the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality in the Harlem Renaissance, taking cues from work by Richard Bruce Nugent and Langston Hughes. A curator-led tour of the exhibitions and a reading by writer and artist Pamela Jackson of a short story by Nugent will also be included. Space is limited, and advance ticket purchase for general admission and entrance to the event is recommended via www.museumtix.com.
