My Perestroika (Robin Hessman, 2010, 87 min.). The story of five former Moscow schoolmates living in post-Soviet Russia, offering glimpses of daily life, Soviet propaganda films, and vintage home movies. The people in My Perestroika represent the invisible, ordinary citizens of Moscow—raising children in a world they couldn’t have imagined in their wildest dreams. They share stories of their Soviet childhoods and the huge changes engendered by perestroika (restructuring), and allow us to see the true nature of contemporary Russian life.



In exploring the unheralded lives of the last generation of Soviets to grow up behind the Iron Curtain, director Robin Hessman reveals the contradictions and complexities of modern Russia from the inside out. There will be a Q&A with Hessman after the film.
