Brooklyn Reads: We Are a Haunting with Tyriek White

Writer, musician, and educator Tyriek Rashawn White returns to his hometown for the release of his debut novel, We Are a Haunting, which traces three generations of a working-class Brooklyn family and their inherited ghosts. Set in East New York during the 1980s, the story is told through the perspectives of Key, a doula who cares for local Black women; her mother, Audrey, who is on the verge of losing their public-housing apartment; and Colly, Key’s grieving son, who learns he has inherited the gift of moving between the living and the dead. White is joined in conversation by writer, editor, and fourth-generation New Yorker nia t. evans. The program begins with a performance by Kadeshiaa.
Masks are required in the Auditorium and will be available upon arrival.
