Artist Talk: Intergenerational Collaboration with Nona Faustine and Queen Ming
Saturday, January 27, 2024
3–5 pm
Education Gallery, 1st Floor
In celebration of our newly renovated Toby Devan Lewis Education Center, listen in as artist Nona Faustine and her daughter, Queen Ming, discuss their experience as creative collaborators. Working primarily in photography, Faustine explores legacy and history in her practice, centering the bodies, agency, and experiences of Black women across time and geography. Her daughter is a frequent subject in Faustine’s work.
In a conversation moderated by Adjoa Jones de Almeida, Deputy Director for Learning and Social Impact, the mother-daughter duo talk about the joys of collaborating and the relationship between artist and subject. Their exchange focuses on Faustine’s Mitochondria series, which illuminates the legacy of three generations of women—from the artist’s mother to her daughter. Mark your calendar for Faustine’s forthcoming solo exhibition Nona Faustine: White Shoes, opening March 8.
Free; registration is required. This program is presented as part of a weekend-long celebration of the reopened Toby Devan Lewis Education Center, which includes the Norman M. Feinberg Gallery.
