Rhiannon
Mythic, worshipped in Wales, exact dates uncertain
Rhiannon, literally “great queen,” is a character from Welsh mythology who married Pwyll, lord of the kingdom of Dyfed. She bore him a son, who disappeared on the night of his birth while in the care of Rhiannon’s ladies in waiting. Fearful of being punished, they killed a puppy and spread its blood and bones all over the sleeping Rhiannon to make it appear that she had murdered her own son. She was wrongfully punished for seven years, until he was discovered at the stable of another king and returned to his parents.
