Art Salon Series: “Collecting Currently”: Collecting African American Art

Thursday, April 8, 2010

7–8:30 pm

Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Pavilion, 1st Floor

In this informal two-part course on how to become a savvy art collector, you can enjoy a glass of wine while learning from dealers, collectors, curators, designers, and consultants. Whether you are new to collecting or just looking to refine your eye for African American art, this session will help you develop informed strategies and expand your knowledge of the current market for work by African American artists. Moderated by Teresa A. Carbone, Andrew W. Mellon Curator of American Art at the Brooklyn Museum, the panel includes Nigel Freeman, director of the new African American Fine Art Department at Swann Galleries; Corrine Jennings, co-founder of the gallery Kenkeleba House and a noted collector of African American art; Michael Rosenfeld, founder of Michael Rosenfeld Gallery; and Dr. Halima Taha, author of Collecting African American Art: Works on Paper and Canvas.

Registration is $20 per session ($15 for Members) or $36 for both sessions ($28 for Members).  A complimentary glass of wine is included. Wine bar opens at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or in person at the Museum’s Visitor Center.
